It is also offering a 1000-point discount for people who book early.
The airline yesterday announced it would make 1.5 million seats available on Qantaslink and Qantas flights for travel between December 1 and February 29.
It is the latest of a number of moves by airlines to convince people to keep travelling.
Tiger Airways is also offering "free" one-way seats to people willing to pay tax charges of $17 to $39 and Qantas ran a two-for-one sale on its international services.
Qantas frequent flyers also face taxes and charges but can cover them by burning an additional 6000 points.
The 1000-point discount is available for Classic Award bookings made until November 30. However, the airline yesterday warned the number of frequent-flyer seats would still be limited and some flights might not have any Classic Award seats available.
Qantas frequent-flyer CEO Simon Hickey said the seats would be available in business and economy classes to all major cities and popular holiday destinations.
"It's more than we would normally do and depends on take-up -- exactly how many more it will ultimately be," he said. Mr Hickey said the move reflected continued strong support for the Classic seats and was intended to stimulate travel.
September domestic airline figures released yesterday showed passenger numbers in September rose 5.6 per cent on a year ago to 4.25 million passengers. |
